About El Camino

El Camino School is one of the nine elementary schools of the Goleta Union School District. The Goleta Union School District (GUSD) serves the Goleta Valley, a suburban community of 80,000 people that includes the City of Goleta and a large unincorporated area. The area is known for its cultural, academic, and recreational opportunities, as well as its mild climate.

El Camino Elementary serves 330 students in TK through Grade 6. Class size averages 24 in Grades TK-3, and is at or under 20 in Grades 4-6.

El Camino offers a stimulating and challenging atmosphere with a capable and articulate professional staff. Many teachers, classified employees, and administrators have enjoyed long careers with GUSD. The staff is skilled at working to develop individual student potential by providing basic skills and problem solving strategies. El Camino offers programs in science, technology, music, art, and physical education. The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program occurs during the school day for eligible students in Grades 4-6. One of the centerpieces to our school is the El Camino Science Lab, which is open during recess and lunch to provide students with opportunities to explore science throughout the day. We have a computer center, and all classrooms and offices are wired for high-speed communications. Our school day is extended in several ways, from before and after school tutorials, to enrichment activities such as Lego Robotics club, instrumental band. The After School Porgram program serves approximately 35 percent of our students Monday through Friday.
