First Grade

This is my 19th year with Goleta Union Schoo District. I'm pretty local, I grew up in Carpinteria and attended UCSB.I live wtih my husband, 2 kids and my 2 dogs. When I have free time I like to do all things arts and crafts, house remodeling projects and bake. I'm excited to be part of our Dual Language Immersion program.

Este es mi decimonoveno año con Goleta Union School District. Soy bastante local, crecí en Carpintería y asistí a la UCSB.Vivo con mi marido, 2 niños y mis 2 perros. Cuando tengo tiempo libre me gusta hacer todas las cosas de arte y artesanía, proyectos de remodelación de la casa y hornear. Estoy emocionada de ser parte de nuestro programa de inmersión en dos idiomas.

Hector Garcia

Raised in a household where Spanish was my first language both in Mexico and in California. I grew up in Goleta where I attended and graduated from Kellogg elementary school, Goleta Valley jr high and Dos Pueblos high school. I then decided to pursue a higher education. I attended and graduated from Santa Barbara City College that inspired me to become an elementary school teacher. I finished my bachelor’s degree, masters degree and teaching credential at Grand Canyon University making me the first in my family to have a college degree. 

During my childhood, I had to learn English quickly so that I could support my family interpret conversations and documents and adapt to a new life with a new language. As I got older, I supported my Spanish speaking community through various opportunities within different organizations. This prepared me to be where I am today; a DLI teacher. It is such an honor to live this full circle moment where I have the opportunity to teach young minds to be bilingual which is such a fulfilling dream.

Crecí en un hogar donde el español era mi lengua materna, tanto en México como en California. Crecí en Goleta, donde asistí y me gradué de la escuela primaria Kellogg, la escuela secundaria Goleta Valley y la escuela preparatoria Dos Pueblos. Luego decidí continuar con mi educación superior. Asistí y me gradué del Santa Barbara City College, lo que me inspiró a convertirme en maestro de escuela primaria. Obtuve mi licenciatura, maestría y credencial de maestro en la Universidad Grand Canyon, lo que me convirtió en el primero de mi familia en tener un título universitario. 

Durante mi infancia, tuve que aprender inglés rápidamente para poder ayudar a mi familia a interpretar conversaciones y documentos y adaptarme a una nueva vida con un nuevo idioma. A medida que fui creciendo, apoyé a mi comunidad hispanohablante a través de diversas oportunidades en diferentes organizaciones. Esto me preparó para estar donde estoy hoy: un maestro de DLI. Es un gran honor vivir este momento en el que se cierra el círculo y tengo la oportunidad de enseñar a las mentes jóvenes a ser bilingües, lo cual es un sueño muy gratificante.
