Summer Work
This summer, thanks to voter-approved bond funds and the dedication of our custodial, maintenance, food service, transportation, expanded learning, special education, and technology teams, we upgraded roofs, HVAC systems, and furniture; readied campuses and devices; and delivered strong summer programs.

Safe, Welcoming Schools
We continue to monitor ICE activity and remain committed to procedures that prioritize student well-being and campus safety. At a recent Goleta City Council meeting, we shared:

Goleta Union School District reaffirms our unwavering commitment to ensuring that our schools remain safe, welcoming spaces for all students and families. Every child deserves to learn in an environment free from fear and disruption. We stand with our community and remain dedicated to protecting the dignity and well-being of every student, regardless of immigration status.

We have reviewed our specific protocols with office staff and principals, should ICE enforcement occur at or near a school.

Community in Partnership
Kindness, inclusion, and connection shape how students experience school. Research shows that children thrive when they have trusted adults to count on—and we are committed to ensuring every student has those connections at school. Together, across schools and families, we can ensure every student feels seen, supported, and safe.

Our Focus This Year

Literacy as a matter of equity – Together, we can help every child develop the skills and confidence to read, think critically, and express their ideas.

Coherent systems – Through shared approaches like Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), our schools are committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where your child can thrive.

Empowered leadership – Your voice matters. When you see a way to make our schools better, we invite you to share your ideas and work with us towards solutions.

Thank you for the many ways you support our students. Let’s make this a joyful, purposeful, and connected year—together in partnership.

With appreciation,
Mary Kahn
